Oh, yes, she did! I’m so embarrassed to admit I went to the grocery store without a plan. It’s really not one of my more shining moments, that’s for sure! My normal thing is to write out a two week meal plan, make a shopping list, go shopping and stick to the list. Although I may end up with an extra item or two, it’s already been included in my budget, so I can come home either on or under what I planned on spending. That did not happen today. Not even close!
So, what happened? Well, it’s my oldest son’s birthday next week, so I brought him shopping for some party favors. (We’re having a water party; so many Splash balls are needed.) Since school started last week, I’ve needed to make lunch to send with the kids. This weekend was a little bit unorganized, so nothing I had planned on doing got done…this includes planning for lunches. So, I figured I would do a quick stop at King Soopers for some organic fruits and snacks, since we were already shopping. I mostly stuck to the organic snacks, but remember, just because it’s organic, does not mean it’s good for you. Annie’s Bunny Graham’s are organic, and delicious, but not necessarily the best choice to send to school with your kids. They are definitely not “Real Food.” Organic flavored yogurt in a tube is fun and yummy, but has a ton of sugar in it. And those Ramen noodles I bought are definitely not in Nourishing Traditions! I did manage to buy some organic apples, peaches and bananas, as well as organic bread (not soaked or sprouted, though).
The next time I go shopping, I will definitely stick to my “normal” way of doing it. Making a plan, sticking to that plan and getting out of the store without a bunch of unneeded items are key. For our family, shopping twice a month helps to keep our budget in check, and helps us stick to healthy, real food.
We all make mistakes and have our moments. I may have more than my share, but I’m working to be better and someday, I may just be perfect! 😉 NOT!
